Just like Mapper we have a new version of CalendarPal in development at the moment. It contains new features that users have requested. It will contain improved day/calendar navigation, popup year view, week numbering, user configurable appearance, week formats choice (ISO, Jan 1, First Sun etc) and tool-tip text customisation.

There is still time for some other features to be included in the next release. If you have any suggestions then please do tell us here on the forum.

Screen shots of the development version:

If you are interested in beta testing this version then drop us a line either here or by email.

Screen shot of new Calendar Pal looks good.
But I notice the shading for weekend is no longer part of it.
I suggest you re-instate that

 Ahhh yes! The weekend shading is indeed missing!

OK - Will make sure it goes back in again.

Any other suggestions Paul?

I don't know how difficult this is, but is there a way to set it up so that if Iit, move the window around, and minimize it back to the systray, that the next time iit again it would remember where i had placed it on the screen the last time? i'd like it if when id it, it was somewhere on the screen other than dead center. Like perhaps in the bottom right corner where the systray is.

OK. We could add an option that allows you to select the corners of the screen as well as the last position whend. I'll look at this too.

Thanks

Update:

Lisa - I now have the positioning options in the latest release candidate:

(IMG:http://www.littleredfrog.com/beta/image3.gif)

Paul - The weekend shading is back in. I've updated the image at the top of this topic to reflect this. The option to turn it on/off has also been inserted into the Weeks page- see above.

As requested by another user we now have the ability to synchronise with a time server:

Is there a way that we could "hover" over the day in the tray and have the calendar show above it, in addition to the double-click version that pops up in its own window? It would be wonderful to have both versions available because sometimes I just want to see the monthly calendar very quickly (I'm lazy ;) and don't want to click the date to see the month and then click it closed for a just quick glance) and then sometimes I need to see last month or the next month or the next year, so I'd love to have both options.

What do you think? Is it possible?

BTW, I just found this tonight and I love it!

Hi airolg

OK, I've been looking into your request for the tooltip style "quick calendar" and heres what I've come up with:

(IMG:http://www.littleredfrog.com/beta/Image7.gif)

If you hover over the CP icon then the "quick calendar" comes up - snapped to the taskbar - this seems most logical for a popup like this. Any mouse button will cancel the "quick cal" and it will not display if the main CP dialog isalready.

How does this look to you?

I've set the "quick calendar" popup window title to that of the tooltip text format. If you were going to be using this would you/other people still want the standard tooltip displayed or would you only ever want the quick calendar and no regular tooltip?

A quick word on RoloCal sheets (the date sheet that appears in the calendar page when CP isd) in the new version.

You can now navigate through the calendar whilst hovering over the RoloCal sheet. In the current verison you can't do anything over the rolocal sheet. As you move over the sheet the cursor will change to left, right, up and down navigation arrows. Left and right change the day; backwards and fowards. Up and down change the month; backwards and forwards.

You can also copy a rolocal image to the clipboard in Enhanced Metafile Format (EMF) format. This is a scalable metafile that you can paste into other applications without loss of quality.

Here is one that I copied earlier ;)

That is almost exactly what I wanted! Wow! I agree, it must be snapped to the tray so it's not intrusive. Wow, great customer service. Thanks!

What would really make this even better would be that the day (today's date) be highlighted with a box (some calendars have the day circled--I hate that, you can't see the days around it.). Maybe the light blue that you are using to make the day different as the background with a red outline and the number color white???? I know you have the number in light blue so it's different, but this would make it stand out so much more.

Then...I'd put just the month as the title with arrows on either side to the previous month and the next month (like in most financial software). This would mean I probably wouldn't double-click on it (bringing up the dialog box) nearly as much, but I would always have either option.

Then...I'd love to have it actually say the day at the bottom right under the last week of the month, something like (you could even have the box next to it so people would realize why that particular day is highlighted):

Today: 06/23/2003

I'm glad, in the new version, that we will have the option to have Sunday be the first day of the week (it's standard for me)...makes the program much more adaptable to all to use with whatever format is standard!

I'm really unsure what you mean by "tooltip." What is a tooltip?

Aren't you sorry you asked what people would like???? Just to let you know, I'm trying to be helpful, not critical.

I just now looked at the development version again and you already have the day in a box...duh!!!! Could that be done in the "quick calendar?" Maybe a red border or would that be too busy? I love your color scheme and this would give it a little punch of the red (which I absolutely love).

I think the calendar should really just say, "June" (or whatever month) as the title...the way it is in the screenshot, you kind of have to guess the month. So, could you, maybe, move the words, "Monday, June 23, 2003" down below the actual calendar and have just the month displayed at the top???

I also noticed that you have little arrows at the bottom of the calendar in the new version, could those arrows be put on either side of the month in the title bar of the "quick calendar?"

I'd be such a happy camper!

Thanks for this wonderful little program...I love it! I really needed this--been searching forever! When will the new version roll out? Could I please be on the beta test list? Pretty please??? ;)

I agree. I think it will help with a red outline box. So we could provide this and an option to use it (defaulted). Perhaps a red outline box around the current date and perhaps a different background colour. I'll have a play with it all and see what looks best and then update everyone with a picture to get thoughts on it.

Well... No thats just when the date is selected, so you are still correct in what you have said previously. I will still need to do the outline box thing.

A tooltip is the little rectangluar or balloon style "tip" that pops up when you hover over buttons or tray icons, like CP. The current version of CP displays a fixed message, but as you might of seen above the new version allows you to customise this to your own requirements. I think its better to turn it off if you use the quick calendar, otherwise it gets a bit hairy down there in the tray area.

Other than that I've noted all your comments and will go away and play with your ideas and report back.

I'm really glad you like CP and we really value your feedback on it. I think you'll like the new version... Chris and I have worked hard on it - its going to rock! (shameless boasting)

Oh... can you either register on the board, drop me a PM or email- otherwise I'll have nowhere to send the beta version :D

Yes, the tooltip thingy, users only need the quick calendar or the tooltip, not both, for sure...keep it clean and simple, but functional (like having your cake and eating it too!).

I already love the new version...

I registered on the board because I feel this is such a valuable little program and I want to support it in any way I can. I was surprised it let me post without registering.

Now, I can officially nit-pick! :D

I love this application! This is something that MS should have been including since Windows 95. =)

The only suggestion that I could make is to offer the option to split the weekend days so that the week starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday.

Thanks!

I LOVE this quick calendar and agree with airolg's suggestions. If the Month was at the top, with arrows that let you scroll through other months besides the current one, and the full date was put at the bottom, it would be a great app!!! Though I don't like the idea of putting the date as "Today: 06/23/2003." I like the way it is in the screenshot - "Monday, June 23, 2003" - just moved to the bottom of the quick cal.

I also agree that getting rid of the tooltip would be a good choice. It would make it much less cluttered.

Just to be sure, the quick cal will be displayed according to the same rules as the calendar in the full version, correct? So if I turn off weekend shading or displaying the week number, that'll go away in quick cal as well?
