Captains Report April 2004

Mark Elliot and Terry Farrer both enjoyed a fabulous 10.5-mile course at the Great Grizedale Trail Race on 4th April; Mark coming in a creditable 26th place with Terry just behind in 43rd/223. On the same day Jonathan Welch ran in the Guisborough Moors Race to finish 34/161 on the 12.5 mile course over Roseberry Topping.

Although Denise Tunstall was away on holiday for Guisborough Moor, her previous results in the Cleveland Winter Series 2003-2004 were good enough to make her 1st Women's Senior. Many congratulations Denise, good luck next year in the vets.

Back on the road, Jonathan Welch ran the Bydales 10 Mile on Good Friday 9 April placing 19th/117 overall in a little over 63 minutes. He hopes to get his old form back soon!

Ken Sanderson and Alan Bray both braved the blustery conditions and cold driving rain at the London Marathon on Sunday 18th April. Ken lead Teesdale home in 2217th in a time of 3hrs 12 minutes, with Alan Bray coming 10346th in a time of 3 hrs 56 minutes.

Jonathan Welch found conditions in the Doctor's Gate Race on the same day as the London Marathon to be damp but not as windy, coming in 12th in this first race of the Inov-8 Durham Dales Series.

In the second event "The Strathmore Arms Race" on 2nd May, Jonathan Welch (12th), Chris Tarpey (20th) and Mark Elliott (21st) represented Teesdale men, with Denise Tunstall (30th) representing the women. The course is the standard 10 miles previously known as the Cronkley Fell Race but now more vigorously supported by the new publican. Congratulations to Denise for being 2nd woman home, hope you enjoy your prize of half crate of beer. Chris's bottle is still with the captain, honest!
